Portraits and more ...

It's time to submit for the major portrait prizes around London. Had a lot of fun doing the Les and Les, father and son owners of Furnas fish at Borough Market. This has been entered into the BP Portrait Prize at the National Gallery. They accept about 70 fro hanging and had 2600 odd entries last year - 'You'll never know unless you give it a go'.

Sadu (Indian Holy Man) I have done before in watercolor, this time he has been rendered in oil - the reference for this was taken from a photo I shot whilst visiting Varanasi in India.

Watercolor exhibition .....

A few watercolors completed or up-dated for submission into the 'Royal Society of Painters in Watercolor'  annual exhibition. Very hard (as are all of the London exhibitions ) to get selected, so fingers crossed. Paintings as always taken from either life or from photos I have taken.

Innamincka men revisited

Well another year nearly gone and time to submit work for a series of London exhibitions. No guarantee of being selected off course, but have to give it go. 

The two Charcoals of the 'Innamincka Men' where taken from photographs I took while on a camping trip in South Australia's north. The two guy's ran the the tyre repair place at Innamincka, also worked as station hands and I dare say anything else that came along - great characters.

Sold the London Barge painting awhile ago so decided to do another - this one is acrylic on canvas.

Back in London - good to be painting again

After a premature end to my epic 4 month trip to Nepal (the less said the better) I'm back doing what I enjoy most ... creating art. A portrait to kick off, this one was done twice as the young lady who supplied the photo distorted it accidently ... I won't repeat what I muttered to myself at 2am the morning of the day it was to be presented as a gift to her boyfriend. The idea was to portray the guy in the same light as the godfather. In the end she was over the moon so all is good.

Also a few nudes in pastel for an up and coming dry medium exhibition. Lastly a few jobs to help pay the rent, my little sign business is going well, all word and mouth so far..... Enjoy, comments good and bad most welcome...

A few of my latest, still cracking on with the Acrylics, people seem to like them and I like doing them

I like the speed that I can work in the medium, I do a few construction lines (very minimal) then just jump in. 

Paintings like these usually take between 2 and 3 days, the people I paint are referenced  from my sketch books and are painted straight on (most of them require on going surgery)

Greece & Turkey trip with my boy Sam - good times

The beautiful island of Rhodes, which is just of the southern coast of Turkey, a stunning view around every corner.

I painted the view first in oil, then in watercolor just to see how they would contrast. 

Sat for about an hour waiting for the right shot ... thanks for putting up with your dads obsessions Sammy.

A couple of new signs for Borough Market

A new commission, a Jack Russell Pup, unfortuntley deceased - had a disagreement with a bus, poor little guy. Hope painting will bring back fond memories.
